Train Collision In South Africa Injures 200 People

ER24 Emergency Services say 200 people were injured on Tuesday when two trains collided in a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa.

“The exact details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities are on the scene and will be launching an investigation into the matter,” ER24 said in a statement.

The medical services said that there were no fatalities reported in the accident, the train derailed and burst into flames in Germiston, east of Johannesburg.

South Africa has the largest railway network in Africa, but it has been affected by mismanagement and poor investment which has led to the fall in train use, though it is the cheapest from of public transportation.

According to the the government’s Rail Safety Regulator, in the 2016/2017 financial year, 495 people lost their lives on the country’s railways and 2,079 were injured.
