Surabaya Blast: Family Of Five Bomb Indonesia Police Station

A police headquarters in the Indonesian city of Surabaya on Monday was bombed by a family of five riding on two motorbikes. This occurred after another family bombed three churches on Sunday.

The blast happened at 8.50am, said East Java police spokesman Frans Barung Mangera. Police confirmed the attack was completed by a family of five, including an eight-year-old, who drove up to the gates of the police station on two motorcycles and then detonated the explosives at the security checkpoint. The four adult perpetrators died but the young child is now recovering in hospital.

Indonesia is the world’s most populous Muslim-majority country. The archipelago which houses 260 million people, has seen a resurgence of Islamist militancy in recent years but the scale of the attacks in Surabaya has raised fresh concerns about the potency of jihadist networks.
