We Haven't Increased Electricity Tariff - NERC
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has made it clear that there has been no increase in electricity tariff in the country.
NERC Public Affair General Manager, Usman Arabi said this in an interview on Nigeria Info's Morning Crossfire while speaking with show hosts Wemimo Adewuni and Sheriff Quadri.
Mr Arabi dispelled rumours that electricity consumers in Nigeria will pay more for electricity and said there will only be periodic reviews starting next year.
“The commission has not increased electricity tariff; the commission shall make periodic reviews to reflect actual values at the next Multi-Year Tariff Order (MYTO) minor review in January 2020. These values that are reflected include inflation, forex and the price of gas” he said.
He also assured customers of better service from NERC and promised that the commission is working on alleviating metering issues.
“The commission came up with Metering Asset Providers (MAP) regulation to address metering issues. We are addressing the issue of estimated billing and the commission will let the Nigerian public know of its decision soon,” he added.
