UPDATE: Why There Was Delay Stopping Balogun Market Fire - LASEMA
By Ufuoma Egbamuno
The lack of accessibility into the popular Balogun Market, Lagos is the major reason it took longer time to put off the fire that engulfed some buildings this morning. This is according to Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu
Two separate buildings today at the market located in Lagos Island, were engulfed with fire destroying properties. Crucially no life was lost and no one was injured.
Speaking exclusively to Nigeria Info correspondent Kenneth Tobi Odoeme, the LASEMA DG lamented the chaotic situation at the scene which made it difficult to for officials of the Lagos State Fire Service to gain access to put off the fire.

“Our people need to do the needful to do the needful,” Oke-Osanyintolu says. “The main challenge we are having is the accessibility to the source of the fire. However, we will surmount it; we will be on top of it.”
The LASEMA DG urged citizens to be “calm, cool and collected,” insisting that the agency was “on top” of the situation.
“As you can see that we are on top of our challenges but the most important thing is that we keep on appealing to the citizens of the state in as much as his Excellency is putting together a lot of things for the safety of lives and properties, our people need to do the needful,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained as the time of this report but the LASEMA DG promised to “look at it holistically.”
Last month, two separate fire incidents occurred in Onitsha killing about 4 persons and destroying goods worth millions of naira.
