UNDERSTANDING RAPE CULTURE IN NIGERIA
In the third and final part of our series on rape culture on the show Glass Ceiling on Hard Facts with Sandra (@sEzekwesili), we centred on the beliefs, practices, customs and attitude that lead to rape.
We also specifically looked at how our laws and legal system are also a big part of rape culture , how the law makes it harder to prove rape and how the law makes it difficult for rape survivors to step forward.
Additionally, we asked the salient questions-“ why are so few rape cases reported and why is the society structured not to believe the survivors of rape?”
We were joined on the phone by Lara Oriye, a Human Rights Lawyer, Journalist and Documentary Photographer to discuss the issue.
