TWO CONFIRMED DEAD IN IJEGUN FIRE EXPLOSION

Two people have been confirmed dead following Thursday morning’s fire explosion at Ijegun Community, Satellite Town, Lagos. This is according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA). About thirty vehicles were also burnt in the morning inferno.
The incident occurred at about 5 am as vandals engaged in bunkering activities at Fire Junction, Ijegun within the area where an NNPC pipeline was buried.
According to LASEMA, the vandals had already siphoned petrol into a 33,000 litre tanker. As a second tanker of the same capacity was being loaded, security agencies tried to stop the vandals. In a bid to escape from the security operatives, the vandals allegedly spilled some of the petrol into the drainage and set the petrol on fire in a bid to deter the security agencies from apprehending them. The fire then spread back to the pipeline, the point where the vandals had siphoned the petrol which escalated the fire.
LASEMA says the actual loss will be determined after conducting post disaster enumeration after the fire has been put out.
