Two Arrested for Impersonation
Two suspects have been arrested by the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit for impersonating security officials.
The chairman of the agency, Olayinka Egbeyemi says the suspects, both civilians, wear army and police uniforms while picking up passengers on commercial motorcycles.
One of them, Sunday Job says he bought the uniform from a police officer for 7000 naira.
"I was hawking before I joined okada business over a year ago and I have been wearing this police uniform to arrest and defraud okada riders and making at least N30,000 to N35,000 daily”.
His accomplice, Rasak Oloyede who allegedly impersonates a sergeant in the Nigerian army disclosed that he got his uniform from a dismissed army officer. With this uniform he is able to escape from traffic officers. Oloyede also claims that he extorts money with the uniform when his commercial bus has faults.
The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit chairman, Egbeyemi says all security personnel on official assignment with a motorcycle are required to always be with their identity cards.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu has directed that the suspects be charged to court.
The commissioner also urges Lagosians to be careful and avoid patronising motorcyclists and commercial drivers on fake uniforms.
