Donald Trump has been impeached from office by the US House of Representatives.
The impeachment came after the House voted on two charges that the president abused his power and that he had obstructed Congress.
Almost all the Democrats voted for impeachment while the Republicans voted against with vote for the first article of impeachment, abuse of power tallying at 230-197 and the second, for obstruction of Congress, 229-198.
Trump becomes the third US president in history to be impeached by the House of Representatives but will have a trial in the Senate to decide if he will remain in office.
Following the impeachment, the White House in a statement expressed confidence that the President “ will be fully exonerated" in a senate trial.
