Trump Endangering Whistleblower, Lawyer warns
President Donald Trump's words are said to be endangering the whistleblower whose complaint triggered a US presidential impeachment inquiry.
Andrew Bakaj, the lawyer of the whistleblower in a letter addressed to the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) said the events of the past week have heightened concerns that their client's identity will be disclosed and their client “will be put in harm's way”.
In a July 25 phone call, A whistleblower revealed that The US president broke the law by allegedly pressuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate the business dealings of the son of Democratic presidential aspirant, Joe Biden.
The BBC revealed that the letter specifically mentions Mr Trump's call last week for the whistleblower to be identified, as well as the person that supplied the whistleblower with information about the call.
It quotes Mr Trump as saying: "I want to know who's the person that gave the whistleblower, who's the person that gave the whistleblower the information because that's close to a spy".
Since a transcript of the call by Mr Trump to the Ukranian president was released, Trump has publicly called for the anonymous whistleblower to be unmasked while also suggesting that his opponents could be arrested for "treason".
On Sunday, Democratic House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff said Congress was finalising plans to have the whistleblower testify to Congress in private as they begin Impeachment proceedings against the US president. (BBC)
