Task Force, Drivers Clash in Rivers

Taxi drivers and officials of the Rivers State Government Task Force on Street Trading and Illegal Motor Parks clashed over parking space at Rumuola on Thursday afternoon.

The drivers who run the Rumuokwuta-Rumuola route said the fight started when some Task Force officials led by their Coordinator, Bright Amaewhule tried to dislodge their protest against the relocation of their parking space from Rumuola Junction to the space opposite the Peace Mass Transit Park on Aba road. They said the new park is off their route.

Meanwhile, the coordinator of the Task Force in Rivers State, Bright Amaewhule has insisted that the drivers must use the new park. He said the essence is to decongest traffic at Rumuola.

With the new directive, a driver from Rumuokwuta will have to pass under the Rumuola Bridge, and drive to Bori Camp junction before taking a left turn to drop off passengers at the new park.
