Tarkwa Bay: We Gave Eviction Notice- Navy
The Nigerian Navy says two months eviction notice was issued to residents of Tarkwa Bay and other communities before the inhabitants were eventually evicted over economic sabotage.
The Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral, Oladele Daji said that the Federal Government mandated the Military to look into the areas after the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) complained about a massive product shortage arising from oil theft.
Rear Admiral Daji told correspondent Ijeoma Esek that an investigation was launched by "Operation Awatse" and it was discovered that several residents of the Island were involved in oil bunkery.
He disclosed that it is sad that over three hundred well/pits with PMS were discovered, and over five thousand jerry cans of fuel, canoes and boats were confiscated, during the operation code named "Operation Kurombe".
Rear Admiral Daji, however, reassured legitimate residents of the Islands that the Troops of "Operation Awatse" will not harass or intimidate those with legal means of livelihood.
