Sowore Alleges Plot to Kill as DSS Rearrests Him
By Ufuoma Egbamuno
Barely 24 hours after his release, convener of the #RevolutionNow campaign Omoyere Sowore has been re-arrested by the Department of State Security (DSS), at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
During the attempt to arrest him, some of the reporters of the online news platform, Sahara Reporters, tried to shield him from officers of the DSS, hence a big tussle ensued.
Speaking just before the arrest, Sowore accused the DSS of trying killing him.
“They promised I will not walk out of their detention alive and that is what they came here to implement today,” Sowore said.
He added: “what is important for Nigerians to know is that I am not going to give up until every Nigerian benefits from a country that is theirs. And I have made it very clear, they tried to break me in prison, they sent a delegation to me offering all kinds but I refused.”
Nigeria Info correspondent Akinbola Abayomi reports that the RevolutionNow convener was driven by in the company of his lawyers to the DSS office
Sowore was released on Thursday evening after he was arrested by the DSS on August 3, 2019 because of planned protest against the government. This came after Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court, Abuja gave the DSS a 24 hour ultimatum to release him.
He was however granted bail on September 24, 2019 by the Federal High Court Abuja, on the condition that he surrender his international passport but the DSS refused to release him claiming ignorance of the court order.
