Shiites Protest: House of Reps Summon Security Chiefs
By Emieme Odaudu
The House of Representatives has summoned the security chiefs, over the worsening clashes between members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) which has resulted in loss of lives.
On Tuesday, a Deputy Commissioner of Police and a Channels TV reporter were killed following clashes between IMN members and the Police.
The House took the decision after considering a motion raised under matters of urgent public importance by Mohammed Bello.
An amendment to the motion by representatives Linda Ikpeazu requesting that the Kaduna State Government obey court orders however led to a rowdy session. This led to the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamilla, calling for a division of the House, which led to a closed door session.
After thrashing the issue out behind closed doors the House set up a 7 member Ad Hoc Committee to interface with the Executive on how a permanent solution can be proffered to the Shiites challenge.
