Senator Indicts FG for Lacking Capacity to Stop Small Arms Proliferation
The Senator representing Gombe South, Amos Bulus, is criticising the Federal Government for lacking the will power to curb the spread of small arms and light weapons in the country.
He stated this on Wednesday during a debate on a bill seeking to establish the Nigeria National Commission against the Proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons.
While speaking, Bulus accused security agencies of failing to arrest known gun dealers across Nigeria.
The lawmaker also questioned them for not giving account of all seized arms and ammunition from ports despite available information about such development.
Meanwhile, Senator Stella Oduah suggested that the bill- sponsored by Senator Smart Adeyemi- be stepped down till the adhoc committee set up by the Senate to review the nation’s security concludes its work.
After much deliberation, the bill passed second reading and was referred to Committee on National Security and Intelligence for further legislative work.
