Rivers State Task Force Denies Killing BDC Operator
By Emeka Ortuka
Coordinator, Rivers state Taskforce Force, Bright Amaewhule says it is untrue that his men are responsible for the death of the Bureau De Change Operator killed on February 25.
Speaking with Nigeria Info, Amaewhule said that the deceased was arrested, taken to court but was released as advised by the Police.
“When he was taken to court, the police found out that the man was not in a stable condition. So he was released and cautioned not to return to the place again. “
He added that “The man came down from the car and moved. Just about 15 minutes as the man was going, he slumped. And from the slump was his death.”
“So there was no carcass, fighting, hijacking, shoot out or nothing between the man and my taskforce men.”
Recall that an eyewitness told Nigeria Info how officials of the Rivers State Taskforce on Street Trading, Illegal Markets, and Motor Parks allegedly killed a Bureau De Change operator at Rumuola junction.
Following the incident, Bureau De Change operators protested around Presidential junction in Port Harcourt on Monday after their colleague slumped and died.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs has called on the Police to investigate and arrest officials of the Rivers State Taskforce involved in the matter.
The Council’s Head of Communication, Aselemi Ibrahim said they will follow up to ensure that the perpetrators are punished. He also appealed to Muslims in Rivers state to remain calm and not to take laws into their hands.
