Residents Trapped After Heavy Flood In Abuja
The early morning downpour in the Federal Capital Territory, caused severe flooding in Efab Estate, Lokogoma, trapping residents in their respective houses.
Many residents had to stay indoors praying that the flood waters recede. A resident of the estate, Inya Ode, narrated their ordeal in a telephone chat with Nigeria Info Abuja OAP and correspondent Philip Nwelih.
“It was really chaotic”, said Inya describing how the flood plains were worst hit.
“Around the Lokogoma axis this morning with the heavy rains and all, it was really, really flooded. Some parts of the road especially along the flood plains were completely submerged really in the flood,” explained Inya.
With the floods already an issue, Inya said demolition work by the FDT in the area made movement near impossible.
“It just shows that there are actually some buildings that are in the flood plains”, remarked Inya who also noted that houses along the flood plains are always succeptible.
“I mean in the estate that I am presently, there are some buildings marked for demolition and you can clearly see that those houses are affected everytime this happens”, she said.
Similar flooding was also reported in other parts of Abuja.
