Release ASUU Funds, Reps Tell FG
The House of Representatives has called on the federal government to release funds for earned allowances to members of the Non Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities so as to avert its planned strike.
The House took the decision after a motion by Aisha Dukku who drew attention of the House to the fact that the unions have issued a strike warning over complaints by its members of their exclusion from participating in the new pension administration approved for university lecturers.
Honourable Dukku also drew the attention of House to an agreement reached with the federal government last year, with a pledge that Eight billion naira would be released to cover the earned allowances of NASU members for 2009-2015, but not honoured until date.
The House after consideration of the motion, urged the federal government to set up an audit panel, with a view to ascertaining what its indebtedness is, on the earned allowances for the Non-Academic staff, as well as a committee to address all grievances.
The House also resolved to set up a committee, which would bring both parties to the negotiating table with a view to averting the looming strike.
