PDP Wins at Anambra Court of Appeal
The Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu has ordered the Independent Electoral Commission INEC to issue a Certificate of Return to Obinna Chidoka of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, as winner of the Idemili North and South Federal Constituency election conducted in Anambra earlier this year.
The court also ordered INEC to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued earlier to House of Representative member, Rep. Ifeanyi Ibezi of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Ifeanyi was earlier declared winner of the February 23 election by INEC and had also won a suit challenging his election at the election tribunal which sat in Awka.
But in its judgement today, the Appellate Court held that the tribunal should not have discountenanced the results submitted by the Collation Officer for the election.
Reacting to the court judgement Mr. Ndubuisi Nwobu, Chairman, PDP, Anambra State, told journalists that supporters of the party were happy over the Appeal Court victory of Chidoka.
“This is a victory for democracy. From day one as a party, we have always said that the Feb. 23, 2019 result was sacrosanct and that there was a winner in Idemili North and South Federal Constituency Election. We equally knew that what the lower tribunal did on the matter was a miscarriage of justice and today God has vindicated the just,” he said.
