Operation Storm Necessary to Sustain Power Sector- PHED
The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) says the mass disconnection of defaulting customers, “Operation Storm”, in Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Rivers states was initiated by the management of the company to sustain it and the power sector from imminent collapse.
Manager, Corporate Communications of the company John Onyi in a press statement made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt said the exercise will continue until every kobo is recovered for energy consumed.
He said that the huge debt owed the company by consumers amounted to over N166.021bn as of October 2019. He also warned that it was no longer tolerable, hence the need to recover it all at all costs.
“Every defaulting customers in our franchise area will be visited and disconnected by the dedicated Task Force teams on constant patrol”, said Onyi.
Bemoaning the idea behind seeing electricity as a social service by defaulting customers, he added that such misconception must be changed.
The PHED manager also stated that help desks have been created across all its offices to resolve and reconcile any contentious bill.
He reiterated the PHED’s commitment to improving on its service delivery to its customers, even as payment of bills will help complement it.
