Ojo Boat Mishap: Two Bodies Recovered
Two bodies have been recovered following the boat accident that occurred Tuesday at Ojo Water Ways, Irewe.
The bodies were identified as that of a woman and a youth.
The incident occurred when two passenger speedboats from Irewe community had a head on collision within the Ojo Creek at about 6:10pm.
10 passengers were in the boat coming from Ojo Jetty and eight passengers in the other boat coming from the Irewe community.
Search and Rescue operations is ongoing with relevant Agencies in the State as well as the local community who were the first responders.
13 people were rescued following the mishap and are receiving necessary attention.
According to reliable information gathered from the Chairman, Ojo Local Council Development Area, the Baale, Jagun of Ijanikin and MrNurudeenOyefolu (an official of the local council resident in Irewe), the boat mishap was caused by over-speeding and recklessness on the part of the operators.
Further investigations would be thoroughly carried out by LASEMA and other stakeholders while those found wanting would be sanctioned accordingly.
