The National Assembly wants Federal Government to consider banning of all flights from high-risk countries affected by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Both Chambers of the National Assembly, Senate and House of Representatives arrived at the resolution after two separate motions were passed during plenary on Tuesday.
The motions, sponsored by Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe and House of Representatives counterpart, Hon. Onofiok Luke proposed that Nigeria should restrict travels to worst-hit countries to curb the spread of the virus.
Meanwhile, President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, stressed the need to lay emphasis on isolation and testing centers.
“At the moment, no testing center in the entire southeast. The entire North has no testing center. Abuja is the Federal Capital Territory."
"We as an assembly, we are prepared to support the Federal Government if the request is for money. And even those that have been established, we want to suggest that we continue to upgrade the standard."
"We don’t allow anything to tamper with the standard requirements for those testing centers to be very functional,” Lawan said.
