Minimum Wage: Rivers Workers Unsure of Getting Paid
By Joshua Rogers
Workers in Rivers State may still not receive the new minimum wage in their January salaries. This is because the labour leaders and the state government are yet to agree on certain terms.
Nigeria Info FM gathered that the main issue in contention is whether the payment of the new minimum wage should take effect from April last year when President Buhari signed the bill into law.
We learnt Labour wants the government to pay them in arrears which will amount to about 20billion naira.
But the state government reportedly insists that the money is too much for the implementation to take effect from January this year. Both parties met last on January 10. They are expected to meet again next week.
