Minimum Wage: FEC Approves April as Take Off Date
The Federal Executive Council has approved April 18, 2019 as the take date for the implementation of the new National Minimum Wage, while payment be made on or before December 31st 2019.
Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige announced this today after the weekly FEC meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
He said the template of the new wage will be forwarded to the various state governments as advisory, just as labour unions in respectives states should ensure proper negotiations and implementation.
Also today FEC approved the renaming of the Ministry of Communications to the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.
Minister of Communications, Dr Isa Pantami explained that the change is in compliance with global standard and to reflect the evolvement of digital technology to boost economies around the world.
He said the new Ministry is already developing the digital economic policies, infrastructure and capacity building to ensure Nigerians are digitally literate.
