Mane, Salah Shortlisted for 2019 FIFA Best

Liverpool duo Sadio Mane and Mohammed Salah are two Africans who have made the shortlist for the 2019 FIFA Best Award. Both Salah and Mane won the UEFA Champions League with Liverpool and were Joint top-scorers in Premier League.
Their teammate, Virgil van Dijk, who was named PFA Player of the Year and also helped Netherlands reach the UEFA Nations League final, was nominated.
Van Dijk’s national team-mates, Frekie de Jong and Mathijs De Ligt who both won the Dutch Eredivisie and helped Ajax reach the Champions League semi finals were also nominated by FIFA.
Favourites, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Juventus’ Cristiano made the FIFA Top 10 shortlist. Messi won the La-Liga and finished top scorer in Europe while his fierce rival Ronaldo who helped Juventus win the Serie A as well as the inaugural UEFA Nations League with Portugal.
Tottenham’s Harry Kane; PSG’s Kylian Mbappe; and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard make up the Top 10
According to FIFA, the ten-man shortlist for The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2019 award - based on their respective achievements during the period from 16 July 2018 to 19 July 2019 inclusive - has been compiled by a panel of experts in men’s football.
Fans are expected to vote for their preferred player which will be added to votes from journalists, national team coaches and captains.
The three finalists for each award will be revealed at a later date, with all award winners revealed at The Best FIFA Football Awards show in Milan on 23 September.
