Lawmakers Concerned About Market Invasion by Foreigners
Some members of the Lagos state House of Assembly have expressed concerns over the infiltration of the local markets in the state by foreign nationals.
Majority Leader, Sanai Agunbiade, representing Ikorodu 1, while raising the motion on Monday at the floor of the house lamented that foreign nationals are now developing strategies that are threatening entrepreneurs and retailers in the local market.
He said there was an urgent need for the state government to check the development saying that the competition is unhealthy for local marketers.
The motion generated mixed reactions from the lawmakers as some of them supported the motion while others opposed it saying competition aids growth.
Correspondent Babatunde Pratt reports that the speaker, Mudashiru Obama, after listening to various arguments, stepped down the motion for further deliberation.
He however noted that there was a need to discuss the motion and come out with a positive agreement stressing that the local marketers cannot compete with the foreign nationals.
