Lagos Launches 'HeforShe' Gender Equality Campaign

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on champions decorated at the formal launch of HeForShe campaign and everyone in the state to support women as well as accord them more space to operate for the world to be a better place.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, stated this in his keynote address at the launch themed: "Promoting Gender Equality for a Greater Lagos", held at Bero Hall, Alausa, Secretariat.
The Governor who was also decorated at the event as the number one HeForShe champion of Lagos State said the campaign was a clarion call on the male gender to sign up to the initiative because it was an idea that the society as a whole stand to benefit from.
Sanwo-Olu said women were endowed with incredible potentials that the society needed to harness to achieve optimum level of development, adding that he believed in the critical role of women in advancing the socio-economic development of the state.
The Commissioner For Women and Poverty Alleviation, Cecilia Bolaji Dada, also stated that the launch of the campaign was an invitation for the support of men and also aimed at promoting gender equality for a society in which women and men enjoy equal opportunity as well as rights, advance women's political participation, eliminate gender based violence among others.
On his part, Deputy County Representative to UN Women Nigeria and ECOWAS, lansana Wonneh, said the HeForShe campaign was not only meant for gender equality and empowerment of women in the state but for the Lagos State Governor to become a champion that would lead other states in Nigeria to emulate.
Dignitaries present at the launch of the HeForShe campaign and decoration of champions include Nigerian reggae-dancehall singer and songwriter, Patoranking, the Commissioner For Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the State, Moyosore Onigbanjo, religious and traditional Leaders amongst others.
