By Dipo Omoware
The DG/CEO of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency LASEMA, Dr Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu has assured citizens that the fires that broke out in Balogun Market area and Martins street in Lagos Island have been localized and the situation is under control.
Speaking to Nigeria Info’s Kenneth Tobi at the scene of the fire in Balogun market, Dr Oke-Osanyintolu said emergency services are on top of the situation.
“It is far under control, you can see that my men, the fire services, all the key stakeholders that are important in managing emergency are on the ground.”
“The situation is not overwhelming; we are on top of the challenges and you can see that the fire is under control.”
Oke-Osanyintolu also noted that all the stakeholders responded promptly to the accident but getting access to the source of the fire proved to be difficult.
“The response was swift, effective and efficient, however, the accessibility to the source of the fire is a big problem.”
When asked if the cause of the fire at the accident sites had been discovered, the DG noted that priority was putting out the fire which was still alive at the time of this report.
“First of all let us put out the fire, then we start talking about the causes, we will conduct preliminary investigations on it and we will get to the root of the matter; our action right now is to ensure safety of the lives and property in this environment and that is what we are doing.”
“Don’t forget, we’re managing two fire incidences at the same locality, at the same local government, we have to divide all our men into two.”
