Lagos is Not Broke - Commissioner for Finance
By Dipo Omoware
Amidst concerns that Lagos might be broke and unable to fund its N1.17trn budget, the state’s Commissioner for Finance, Dr Rabiu Onaolapo Olowo has assured Lagosians that they have nothing to worry about.
The Honourable Commissioner made this known in an exclusive interview on Nigeria Info’s Hard Facts while speaking with show host Aghogho Oboh on Tuesday evening.
Speaking on Lagos’ finance, Dr Rabiu said the centre of excellence is “in a very good state” at the start of 2020.
“What gives me a great level of comfort is the state of our finances starting in 2020; we are having a very good start of the year.”
He noted that the focal points for the N1.17trn 2020 budget were health, education and infrastructure and said the Gov Babajide Sanwo-olu led administration was working on completing all outstanding projects in the state.
“Under the administration of Gov Babajide Sanwo-olu, there is nothing like projects from past administration, there is no such classification, what we want to do is to ensure that all projects that are unfinished at the moment are put through to conclusion.”
He said that the state has the “finances to push (the projects)” and added that some “contractors have been given some monies to start the process.”
