Kogi Election: Buhari Congratulates Bello on Re-election

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state on his re-election in the November 16 Gubernatorial Poll.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity Femi Adeshina disclosed this in a statement released on Monday.

President Buhari described the election and emergence of the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate as “a race well run and a victory well won.”

He also commended APC supporters for remaining steadfast and resolute even in the face of isolated incidents of violence.

Buhari furthermore condoled with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives as a result of regrettable acts of violence by thugs doing the bidding of their political sponsors.

According to the President, “All political actors and stakeholders must take deliberate steps to eschew electoral violence as a peaceful and orderly process is vital to our quest for enduring democracy.”

The President further hailed officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for creditably discharging their responsibilities under difficult conditions.

He also urged Gov. Bello to see his renewed mandate as another opportunity to build on the foundation already laid towards improving the lives of the people of Kogi state.

While enjoining the Governor to imbibe the spirit of magnanimity in victory by extending a hand of partnership to opposition candidates, Buhari urged dissatisfied persons to approach the courts.

Yahaya Bello was re-elected for another term in office after the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled a total of 406, 222 votes to beat nearest rival, Engr. Musa Wada of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) who got a total of 189,704 votes in Saturday’s polls.

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) State Returning Officer, Prof. Ibrahim Garuba announced the results at the state collation centre in Lokoja, the state capital.
