Kano Proposes School Before Marriage Bill for Girl Child
By Kolawole Omoniyi
The State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB) in Kano says plans are underway by the State government to introduce and impose a law to ensure that the girl-child completed secondary school before marriage.
SUBEB Chairman, Dr Danlami Hayyo Ungogo, confirmed this yesterday in Kano during the dissemination of research findings on the impact of violence in schools on girls education in Nigeria.
According to Hayyo, the law will help to increase the literacy level among the girl child in the state, adding that the law was long overdue because most of the children especially girls at the primary or junior secondary school get married before finishing.
He added that if the law is established, it will help to produce girl children in all fields of work who will take charge where their services are needed.
