Insecurity will scare potential investors- Senate President
President of the Senate Ahmed Lawan has warned that the current security challenge in the country will scare potential foreign investors from coming into the country.
Lawan stressed this at plenary on Tuesday, following a Point of Order raised by Ayo Akinyelure representing Ondo Central.
Senator Akinyelure had raised Order 42 and 52 of the Senate Standing Rules over the death of Funke Olakunrin, the daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti.
In his reaction, Lawan said, “We urge the federal government to note that the prevailing problem of insecurity has created serious issue of social protection with adverse effect on business cycle”.
“More significantly on the troubled state of the nation’s economy since no foreign investors will be interested in moving their funds into high risk areas where there are incidence of major draw backs and break down of laws and order”, stressed Lawan.
Recall that in a bid to proffer solutions to the recurring cases of killings, kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities in the country, the Senate had on February 8, 2018 organized a Summit on the security challenges plaguing Nigeria and made 18 recommendations on how to address them.
Furthermore, the Senate says there is urgent need for another one.
