INEC WITHDRAWS CERTIFICATE OF RETURN FROM 25 WINNERS OF 2019 POLLS
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has withdrawn 25 certificates of Returns from some winners of the 2019 General Elections.
INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education, Festus Okoye revealed this in Enugu at a forum on Media Coverage of 2019 Genaral Elections. He said the withdrawal of the certificates follows various court orders from across the country.
According to Okoye, more certificates of return may be withdrawn as courts are still adjusting on some cases.
While commending journalists for their openness and comprehensive engagement with the commission prior to, during and after the elections, Okoye intimated that of the 25 certificates withdrawn, 20 were withdrawn from candidiates of the All Progressive Congress and reissued to other party members. Also two certificates were withdrawn from Peoples’ Democratic Party candidates and reissued to other party members.
