Hate Speech: Rivers Service Head Condemns Death Penalty
Head of Service of Rivers State, Rufus Godwins has condemned the proposed death penalty for Hate Speech offenders.
Godwins made the condemnation at the Human Rights Day of the 2019 Law Week of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) in Port Harcourt.
He described the proposed bill before the National Assembly as obsolete in the modern Society.
He said the laws against sedition, libel and slander are good enough to punish offenders instead of death penalty.
On his part, Chairman of the Human Rights Lawyers in the state, Chidi Ekeh said there is the need to stop every form of human right violation before the nation runs into serious problem.
