Major opposition political parties in Anambra State have faulted the setting up of the Anambra Vision 2070 Committee by the Governor Willie Obiano-led APGA administration in the state.

Representatives of the All Progressive Congress and Peoples Democratic Party also called for dissolution of the committee.

One of the reasons for the call is that the committee comprises mainly members of the ruling party in the state.

Governor Obiano had last week, inaugurated the committee to articulate and design a 50-year development blueprint for the state.

Speaking with Nigeria Info’s Kenechukwu Ofomah, the APC Publicity Secretary in the state, Okelo Madukaife said since no single political party can be in power for 50 years, all political parties as alternate and prospective governments ought to be represented in any genuine development plan.

According to him, the committee is a panic move by Obiano-administration and APGA, who he noted have failed the people of Anambra.

“The least that Obiano could have done was to dissolve that committee and reconstitute such that opposition parties will choose by themselves representatives making up 45%, then it will become a shared vision; Anambra will now adopt it as its own vision, knowing that anybody that comes, look this is our own vision.”

“You can interpret the details according to your own different way but at the end of the day these are goals that we need to see and we’re not fooled to make it clear that Anambra is insulted. The governor is looking to 50 years ahead and he does not think that Anambra deserves an articulated vision encapsulated into a speech that will move you and I so that we can see far with him and it will become a shared vision, it’s an insult.”

On his own part, the Anambra state spokesperson of the PDP, Nnamdi Nwangwu, acknowledged that while his Party sees nothing wrong with long-term planning, it is however worrisome why Governor Obiano is coming up with the plan two years before he leaves office.

“It is good to have a plan ahead but towards the end of their administration, they are bringing a committee that will plan for the future of Anambra state?”

“What it means in effect is that they came in without having a vision.”
