FRENCH MILITARY RESCUES FOUR FRENCH SOLDIERS IN BURKINA FASO
French forces have freed four foreign hostages in the West African country of Burkina Faso.
Of the four released hostages, two are French while the other two are said to be an American woman and a South Korean woman.
According to the French presidency, two French soldiers were killed during the raid, as were four kidnappers according to French military quoted by AFP.
The kidnap of the French hostages had occured on May 1 in Benin.
A statement reportedly credited to President Emmanuel Macron by the French said “the President bows with emotion and solemnity before the sacrifice of our two soldiers who gave their lives to save those of our citizens”.
While pointing out the help of the US in providing “precious support”, French Armed Forces Minister Florence Parly thanked the militaries of both Burkina Faso and Benin for their help in the operation.
