France: African child Found Dead in a Plane
By Jude Chukwuemeka
An African child has been discovered stowed away on a plane in a French airport, according to Independent reports.
Air France authorities said the aircraft had travelled to Paris Charles de Gaulle from Abidjan in Ivory Coast. Further inquiry revealed “the lifeless body of a stowaway has been found in the landing gear compartment” of one of its planes.
The person who died was around 10 years old, according to local media, though the information has not been really verified yet.
But a French police official claimed the victim was a young African who has not yet been identified.
The official said such attempts to hide in planes are very rare and nearly impossible to survive. Stowaways are at risk of extremely cold temperatures, oxygen deprivation and being crushed by retracting landing gear.
The body was found onboard flight AF703, which had left the west African country on 7 January.
Air France has issued a statement, expressed its “deepest sympathy and compassion for this human tragedy” and said an investigation has been launched.
