FLYING EAGLES PROGRESS AFTER UKRAINE DRAW
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have qualified for the knock-out stages of the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland, following a 1-1 draw with Ukraine.
Coach Paul Aigbogun’s boys advanced to the round of 16 as one of the four best third-placed sides, after finishing behind Ukraine and USA in Group D. In the other group match, USA defeated Qatar 1-0 and finished second in the group with six points, while Ukraine topped the Group with 7 points.
Danyo Sikan had headed the Ukrainians into the lead on 30minutes but Muhamed Tijani equalized from the spot following confirmation from VAR that Denys Popov had handled in the area. Tijani, who had earlier missed a spot kick in the first half ensured Nigeria’s passage to the next round after slottting past Adriy Lunin.
