Five RCCG Pastors Kidnapped; Police Investigate Priest Murder
General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye has announced the abduction of five pastors of the church in Ijebu-Ode, Ondo State.
They were seized by yet to be identified gunmen on Friday while heading to the Redemption Camp along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Pastor Enoch Adeboye announced made the announcement during the ministers’ meeting, ahead of the 2019 National Convention of the church.
In a related development, the Police in Enugu State say they are investigating the murder of a Catholic Priest, Reverend Father Paul Offu.
Enugu Police spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu, told correspondent Philip Nwelih in a telephone interview that the incident was “unfortunate” and assured that all is been done by the force to bring the perpetrators to book.
He said: “The incident is unfortunate and we are actually doing everything within our reach to ensure that such does not persist.”
“We’ve actually commenced the investigation and action with a view to unravelling the mystery behind this and also apprehend perpetrators so that they can be brought to book” added Ebere.
Ebere also moved to allay fears of insecurity in the state, assuring that the force will live up to its responsibilities.
“That does not portray insecurity in the state, it just happened and thats why I say it is unfortunate but we are working assidiously in partnership with the various stakeholders to ensure we live up to our responsibilities”, the spokesman stressed.
Futhermore, he added that “people are free to go about their lawful businesses without any fear of any intimidation.”
Confirming the incident, the Catholic Diocese of Enugu had in a social media post announced that Reverend Father Offu was killed while traveling along Ihe-Agbudu Road in Awgu Local Government Area, on Thursday.
The diocese expressed deep concern that Catholic priests were being targeted by criminals in the past two months in Enugu state.
