FG Inaugurates Planning Committee for Armed Forces Remembrance Day
The Federal government has inaugurated a national planning committee for the 2020 Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Abuja.
The Armed Forces Day is celebrated annually on January 15 in commemoration of the surrender of Biafran troops to the Federal troops on 15 January 1970, which marked the end of the Nigerian Civil War.
The 28 member committee which was set up across various ministries and agencies is expected to ensure the success of the day
Minister of Defence Major General Bashir Magashi (rtd) who was represented at the inauguration by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry Nuratu Batagarawa said Nigerians enjoyed progressive return of peace in the world and particularly in the North East through the efforts of the military and their families.
The minister tasked the committee to come up with ways of improving the lots of families of departed heroes and heroines.
Chairman of the committee, Olufumilayo Mustapha in her address said all segments of the society will be mobilised by the committee to participate in the activities.
She pledged to give her best efforts to the planning and execution of the event.
