FG Committed to Tackling Soot Pollution- Minister
Minister of State for Environment Sharon Ikeazor has dismissed allegations that the Federal Government has ignored the soot pollution in Rivers state because of its political differences.
The Minister stated this at the commissioning of the South-South Zonal office building of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) and National Oil Spill Reference Laboratory in Port Harcourt.
She told correspondent Emmanuel Onwuka that the federal government is committed to ensuring the soot situation is tackled permanently.
Ikeazu, while blaming illegal refining for the pollution, said the federal government is seeking alternative measures to engage youths involved in illegal refining.
Furthermore, Ikeazu urged those involved in illegal refineries, stakeholders and community leaders to apply for licenses to operate modular refineries, noting that this would reduce oil pollution in the Niger-Delta region.
