Nigeria U23 team forward,  Sunday Faleye has expressed his delight following the Olympic Eagles smooth passage to the forthcoming AFCON U23 in Egypt.

The attacking midfielder who bagged a goal and an assist confirmed this to correspondent Abdallah Sharif in an exclusive chat shortly after Nigeria U23 obliterated their Sudanese counterpart 5-0 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba on Tuesday evening.

The silky attacker noted he has always believed the team will overturn the 0-1 defeat and qualify for the forthcoming AFCON U23 tournament in Egypt.

He said: "When we lost the game against Sudan, (the 1st leg) I told my teammates to keep their heads up because we played well, just one mistake and we thought we didn't do very well."

"I told them we were going to win this game because they (Sudanese) are not really mature like we are and yes, this team is very good."

The FC Wacker Insbruck of Austria player added the Olympic Eagles will have a good outing in the forthcoming Afcon U23 billed for November in Egypt.

"I think when they (the team) go for the tournament in Egypt, they will make us proud, they will qualify because there's a lot of potential in the team. Everybody is hungry to play and it's a team of one spirit, everybody is eager to give their best. Anybody that is called upon will give their best."

He also revealed his personal delight at scoring for Nigeria, describing the qualification more importantly as" one of the greatest joy" for the team.

"I think one of the greatest joy for us is qualifying the team for the tournament in Egypt. Nigerians- over 190 million people- were expecting this result. For me, I'm happy to get a goal and an assist in the game and yes, I'm ready to give my best all the time for Nigeria", he added.

The Nigeria Olympic Eagles qualified for the forthcoming Afcon U23 after thrashing Sudan 5-0 on Tuesday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium.

Goals from Taiwo Awoniyi, Sunday Faleye,  Sunusi Ibrahim and a brace from Ndifereke Effiong ensured the Olympic Eagles' ticket to the forthcoming AFCON U23 in Egypt in November.
