EXCLUSIVE: Coronavirus Index Patient Still on Admission
The Coronavirus Index patient is still on admission and has not been released. Various reports had suggested that the Italian, who was the first confirmed case of the disease in Nigeria, had been released.
But, Dr Abimbola Bowale, Medical Director, Infectious Disease Hospital, Lagos confirmed exclusively to correspondent Joy Kalio that the Italian is still on admission at the hospital.
When contacted via the phone to confirm if the Italian index case has been discharged, Bowale replied, “No, he is still in admission.”
Earlier, Bowale told Nigeria Info that the Italian was stable.
“The index case is responding very well. (He is) almost coming to the end of his treatment and the viral load has continued to go down,” Bowale said.
On Wednesday, Nigeria confirmed five new cases of the Coronavirus. This brings to eight the total number of confirmed cases.
Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Enahire in a press briefing on Wednesday revealed that five new persons tested positive to the virus.
According to him, the fresh cases include four Nigerians and one foreign national who entered the country through the land borders.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Contol in a separate announcement confirmed that the new cases had a travel history to the United States of America and the United Kingdom.
