By Kolawole Omoniyi
The anti-smuggling fight of the Nigeria Customs Service(NCS) has taken a new dimension in Kano as the Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the NCS has written a letter to all supermarkets and shops in the city to stop patronizing foreign rice or risk total closure of business in the State.
The warning letter dated 17 February with reference number NCS/KAN/053/S.28 and signed by the Command’s Area Controller, said any shop or supermarket caught indulging in the act of selling foreign rice and other prohibited items will be closed down.
It added that the move was in the interest of national economy and security, therefore urging the affected business owners to visit the website of the customs for more details on the prohibited import and export trade so as to avoid being a victim of the closure.
The letter which was directly issued to owners of the supermarkets and shops had since been trending on social media and when contacted last night, the Command Spokesman, Isa Danbaba confirmed the authenticity of the letter.
