Lagos State Police Command says it has witnessed a huge reduction in violent crimes in the last 30 days as compared to what it used to be in the past.
Commissioner for Police in the state, Zubairu Mu’azu disclosed this on Monday in Ikeja at the Police Officers’ Mess, while parading armed robbery, cultists and murder suspects.
Mu’azu who attributed the reduction in crime to the robust crime prevention strategies put in place by the Command also assured on further plans to ensure adequate security during the “mber” months- a traditional time for the supposed increase in crime rate in the country.
40 armed robbery suspects, 29 cultists, and 19 suspected murderers were paraded by the State Police Command today.
Mu’azu who led the parade told correspondent Ijeoma Esek that 19 firearms and 51 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the suspects, with the Command foiling 31 armed robbery attempts as well.
“In the next one or two weeks, a very high robust operation is going, the Command prepares towards the “mber” months because of the usual high increase in crime rate about that time.”
Meanwhile, the State CP has also called on the general public to report activities of extortion by Police officers to the command.
Mu’azu also noted that a lot is been done by the Command to curb the ugly trend, disclosing that culpable officers would be brought to book.
“I know for quite some time now, we have done so much in ensuring the arrest and investigation of our officers who engage in extortion.”
“Please I want to call on all Lagosians to report such activities to us, the command will not relent in ensuring that our officers who are found wanting in this area are brought to book”, the CP stressed.
