Covid-19: US Conducts Tests on Possible Cure from Nigeria
By Phiip Nwelih
Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonanya Onu, says the United States is conducting tests on a ‘Chemical Compound ‘which is a possible cure for COVID-19.
Speaking in Abuja on Friday, Onu dismissed reports suggesting that former Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Professor Maurice Iwu, found a cure for the disease.
He added that Iwu’s initial findings revealed that the compound could cure the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
According to him, the chemical compound is being isolated by the former INEC Chairman, Iwu.
“Professor Maurice Iwu whom you know, he came and said that he had isolated a compound from one of our Nigerian natural product and because they tried in the past to test that compound against SARS, which is a variant of this COVID19”.
The Americans were very interested. They came and they’ve already entered into agreement with him. So they are going to test this thing. We immediately invited the President of the Academy of Science and contacted the Honourable, Minister of Health.”
Onu further explained the new approach towards the management of Sickle Cell Anaemia, such that the people living with sickle cell would not go into crisis.
“The approach that we now have in the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology is to manage the person who has sickle cell so that the person will never go into crisis. It is like a food supplement coming from our own natural product here in the country. Once you add it to your food and then eat it, then you will never enter into crisis. They have tested this thing abroad but it will definitely be in the market because it has passed so many tests.”
The Minister urged Nigerian scientists to submit their claims of a cure to any ailment for scientific tests.
