Covid-19: RCCG Suspends Large Gatherings
By Abiosun Anjolaoluwa and Precious Nnenna Okon
The Redeemed Christian church of God (RCCG) has issued a directive to their large parishes in Lagos and Ogun States to moderate their mode of worship.
Parishes with an average attendance of more than 50 people are to ‘’make use of house fellowship centers to run simultaneous church services’’. Those below 50 can have their services “without alteration or changes.”
The directive from an Assistant General Overseer of the church, Pastor J.F. Odesola is in line with the Wednesday announcement by the Lagos State government that religious gatherings above 50 are now suspended.
All parishes of RCCG have also been directed ‘’to connect to Dove Television to join the live broadcast from the General Overseer during this period.’’
The decision by the Lagos State government to suspend large religious gatherings was made as a result of the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus and the need for it to be contained.
We are limiting gatherings and events to no more than 50 people and appropriate social distancing must be observed. The required government agencies will be monitoring. Let us take #COVID19 seriously and observe good personal hygiene and other recommended precautions.— Babajide Sanwo-Olu (@jidesanwoolu) March 19, 2020
Five new cases were confirmed on Wednesday and other results are yet to be announced.
