Court Asks DSS to Keep Sowore
The Federal Court High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday asked the Department of State Security Service (DSS) to maintain custody of the convener of #RevolutionNow protest, Mr Omoyele Sowore, and his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare, pending the hearing of their bail application.
This was after the defendants were arraigned on seven counts of treasonable felony and other sundry offences brought against them by the Federal Government.
According to the Punch, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the seven counts read to them.
The presiding judge, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu said although Sowore had earlier been granted bail by the Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday, the bail earlier granted was not predicated on the charges on which he was arraigned on Monday.
According to her, Sowore needs a fresh bail granted to him before he is released adding that if she would have to grant them fresh bail, it had to be based on the formal written bail application and not oral.
She directed them to file a formal bail application and then adjourned hearing till Friday.
Sowore has been in the custody of the DSS since August 3 after he was arrested for spearheading the #RevolutionNow protest.
