Broadcast Stations to Pay N5m for Hate Speech
The Federal Government says it will increase the fine for hate speech by broadcast organizations from N500, 000 to N5m.
The minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed stated on Thursday in Abuja while inaugurating a seven-man committee on the implementation of reforms in the National Broadcasting Commission.
He said the upward review was to dissuade broadcast organizations from airing content capable of threatening peace in the country.
On his part the chairman of the committee and Director of Broadcast Monitoring at NBC, Prof. Armstrong Idachaba promised that the committee will deliver on its mandate.
