BREAKING: Supreme Court Affirms Tambuwal's Election
By Akinbola Abayomi
Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State will remain governor until 2023 after the Supreme Court affirmed his election and dismissed the petition brought against him by APC’s candidate, Ahmed Aliyu.
In a judgment delivered by Abba Aji and unanimously accepted by other Justices, she ruled that the appeal by Ahmed Aliyu of the All Progressives Congress is lacking in merit hence the justices' decision.
The appellant had approached the Apex Court seeking a nullification of the decisions of both the Tribunal and Court of appeal on the election.
Counsel to the Independent National Electoral Commission in the matter, Tanimu Muhammed(SAN) said immediately after the ruling that despite how keenly contested the election was, the plaintiff did not "present cogent and sufficient evidence to warrant the Supreme Court to dissolve the decision of both the Election Tribunal and the Court of Appeal in Sokoto State on that matter".
