BREAKING: No More Sirens and Convoys on Roads - FRSC
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says abusers of sirens and convoys will henceforth be prosecuted.
Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi made a statement released by Bisi Kazeem, the Corps Public Education Officer on Wednesday.
Oyeyemi said the organization would work with the Police to ensure that offenders were prosecuted accordingly.
According to him, most abusers of convoys are sirens are unauthorized private individuals and not government officials.
He said: “Abuse of convoys and sirens are an abuse of freedom of movement and intimidation to roads users and citizens across the country and this act must stop.
“We have seen a lot of people abusing the use of convoys and we have taken it up with the appropriate authority, this year, we would take more drastic actions.”
While stating that the act was lawless and against the regulation of entitlement to escort, Oyeyemi disclosed that vehicles of offenders will be impounded and the drivers prosecuted according to the law.
The Corp Marshal further revealed that no fewer than 690 offenders were prosecuted while 629 others were convicted by the FRSC Mobile Court during the body’s end-of-year special patrol operation.
He also cautioned against making and receiving calls, hand-held usage of Google Map while driving, stressing that anyone caught would be arrested and prosecuted, even as he lauded the use of the map.
